Talking to the dentist

When you go to the dentist, you’re often given a lot of information and you might hear terms that you haven’t heard before. This can be overwhelming, but asking questions can help you leave the dentist’s office feeling like you are in charge of your oral health!

There are 3 basic questions that can help make sure you’re getting the most out of your visit.

  1. What is my main problem?
  2. What do I need to do?
  3. Why is it important for me to do this?

If you’re unsure about the information you are being given, ask away! Don’t feel nervous or embarrassed about asking questions. Your provider wants you to play an active role in your oral health care so that you can address problems and be as healthy as you can be. Your provider would much rather answer questions than have you leave the appointment without a clear understanding of what was discussed. So, ask questions, ask them again if you don’t understand the answer, and get the most out of your oral health care visits!
