Medical Supply HCPCS Code T2029
Posted 01/07/2010National Provider Identifiers (NPIs) required for registered nurses (RNs)
State and Federal requirements for use of the NPI on medical claims went into effect on May 23, 2008. Your facility may already have an NPI and may be submitting claims with the facility/billing NPI or a supervising RN's NPI.
Effective November 13, 2009, PrimeWest Health will begin following national recommendations that RNs providing professional services obtain an NPI and include it on individual service lines of their claim forms. We understand that this requirement varies from the current Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) requirement; however, we feel it is necessary to obtain rendering provider information on medical claims submitted by providers.
Starting November 13, 2009, inclusion of the rendering RN's NPI number on claim forms will be strongly encouraged for professional services provided by RNs. When submitting claims to PrimeWest Health for reimbursement, make sure to include the appropriate NPI of the RN on the individual service lines (box 24 J) of the claim form. Please note that the supervising RN's NPI will still be allowed, but PrimeWest Health is strongly encouraging the rendering RN to obtain and use his/her own NPI on the claim.
Your facility can obtain an NPI for individual RNs from the National Provider and Payer Enumeration System (NPPES) website or by calling 1-800-465-3203 (toll free).
Please fax information for all RNs with NPIs employed by your facility to PrimeWest Health at 1-320-335-5297, Attn: Sharon Larsen. Include the name of your facility, the name of each RN, and his/her NPI. Please send this information regardless of whether the NPI is new.
If you have questions, call the Provider Contact Center at 1-866-431-0802 (toll free) and select option 3.
